The act of expelling air from your stomach through your mouth is known as “burping”, or “belching”, and we all do it. In fact, burping is so commonplace a bodily function that we are constantly doing it, no matter how old or young we may be. Babies in fact are deliberately burped so that the excess air they inhale while feeding doesn’t cause them any pain. Our bodies remove excess air through burping, and some of the many reasons that we excessively swallow air is because of eating or drinking too fast, having fizzy drinks, or eating spicy food. Other reasons that we burp can be a little more serious, such as having an ulcer, conditions like lactose intolerance, acid reflux, or maybe even anxiety. If you notice yourself burping more than you usually do, monitor your eating habits and try some of these handy home remedies to relieve the pressure.
