16 Foods to Eat If You Have High Blood Pressure

5. Whole Grains

Everyday Health

Even for those with no health problems, whole grains are always the better option over refined grains. And if you do need to watch your blood pressure, you can be assured that you would be getting all the good parts when you consume whole grain. These grains contain all three layers, namely bran, germ and endosperm. Together these layers are rich in fiber, vitamins and other nutrients. On the other hand, refined grains are milled, which strips off the bran and germ, which means much of the natural nutrients are stripped off as well. So opt for whole grains like brown rice, quinoa and oatmeal instead. Some foods such as bread, pasta and cereal are available in both whole grain or refined grain, so if you already eat these, just switch to the whole grain varieties.
