9. Garlic

Supplemania

Garlic is popularly used not only in cooking, but it has also been used to treat a variety of ailments over the centuries. It has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and pain-relieving properties.

While garlic oil is commercially available, you could also make your own at home. Peel and crush one clove of garlic, and add it into 2 to 4 tablespoons of olive oil. Warm the mixture in a pan, swirling around until it becomes fragrant. Strain the garlic out after letting it cool. While lying on your side opposite from your affected ear, apply 2 to 3 drops of the warm garlic oil in your ear. Put a piece of cotton over the ear to prevent the oil from spilling out. Let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. You may also apply the oil by soaking a piece of cotton in it, and putting it just inside your ear to allow the oil to seep into your ear canal. Store any remaining oil in the refrigerator.

Alternatively, you could use a whole clove of garlic to treat your earache or tinnitus. Just peel a clove of garlic, then cut off the tip on one end. Wrap it in gauze, and let it sit in your ear, making sure that the cut end is facing into your ear. Be careful not to let it go in your ear canal. Apply a warm washcloth over the ear, and wait until the ache goes away. Avoid using this method on children.
