20 Ways to Get Rid of Zits and Prevent Breakouts

3. Ice

One of the quickest home remedies for breakouts is ice. It is a simple method that is easily available in your freezer. However, this method of treatment is only effective for inflammatory types of acne. It works by reducing inflammation, and it may also lessen redness. The numbing effect of ice can also temporarily relieve pain that may arise with cystic and nodular acne.

Before you treat your pimples with ice, make sure you start with clean skin. Wrap some ice in a thin piece of cloth or paper towel. Apply the wrapped ice on your pimples for only one minute at a time. You could increase your minute-long applications, but do so with five minute intervals between applications to prevent damaging your skin. You could also use a cold compress in place of ice.
