20 Ways to Get Rid of Zits and Prevent Breakouts

18. Better Diet

ABC News

An unhealthy diet that includes a lot of fast food and fried or processed foods could make you prone to breakouts. Making certain changes to your diet can help in preventing acne breakouts. Consuming more foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids can be beneficial for your skin. These include fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines, grass-fed beef, pastured eggs, soybeans and soy products, nuts, spinach, kale, and wild rice.

On the other hand, dairy products and foods with a high glycemic index (GI) are recommended to be reduced to avoid breakouts. Some examples of the latter include breads, breakfast cereals, instant cereals, enriched pastas, short grain white rice, potatoes, pumpkins, pineapples, melons, and snack foods, such as popcorn, pretzels and rice cakes. Avoiding these high GI products appear to be more effective in acne prevention than avoiding dairy products, which include milk, cheese, ice cream and yogurt. Being conscious of your diet can improve not just your skin, but your overall health as well.
