18 Dangerous Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat

5. Coffee, Tea, and Other Sources of Caffeine

No matter how much you might love coffee or tea, these beverages and other sources of caffeine are a big no-no for your dogs. They are much more sensitive to the effects of caffeine than people are, to the point that consuming caffeine-laden foods can be fatal to them. While a lap or two of coffee, tea, or soda might not be enough to cause poisoning, consuming moderate amounts of caffeine from coffee grounds, coffee beans, tea bags or other sources can cause serious problems.

Symptoms that may arise include restlessness, hyperactivity, vomiting, tachycardia (elevated heart rate), hypertension (high blood pressure), tremors, abnormal heart rhythms, and hyperthermia (elevated body temperature). Severe cases may lead to seizures, collapse, and even death.

Make sure to keep your dog away from any foods or beverages containing caffeine, such as coffee, tea, chocolate, cocoa, cola, and energy drinks. If you even suspect that your pet might have ingested caffeine, take your dog to the vet immediately.
