Sugar can cause the same problems for your dog as it can for you. While granulated sugar in itself is not toxic, too much can trigger many health issues. It can put your dog at risk for cavities, weight gain, diabetes, and metabolic conditions. These conditions may even lead to further issues such as oral infections, arthritis, and heart problems.

Some signs that your dog might be getting too much sugar include agitation, periods of hyperactivity followed by depression, bloodshot eyes, weight gain, and urinary tract or kidney infection.

Though dogs need sugar in the form of carbohydrates, better skip the sugary treats.
