18 Dangerous Foods Your Dog Should Never Eat

2. Avocado

Harvardhealth

While avocados might not always be toxic to dogs if prepared properly, they can still be dangerous for your pet. What makes this fruit potentially unsafe is the toxin called persin, which can be found in all parts of the avocado plant, including the leaves, bark, seed, and fruit, especially when it is unripe.

Other animals such as birds, chickens, cattle, goats, horses, and sheep are more susceptible to the toxin, while dogs appear to be more resistant as long as they are only served the ripe avocado fruit without skin, pits, stems, or leaves. However, this is not always the case with every dog, so it is better to just avoid feeding your doggo avocados.

If you grow your own avocado trees, keep your dog away from it as even other parts of the plant can be a threat. The seed can even be a choking hazard if ingested by your dog.
