Pain Relief Liniment Oils, Creams, Or Lotions
Pain-Relief Liniments are a general term for medicated topical preparations meant to be applied to the skin, specifically to address pain. It comes in various forms, ranging from oils, or creams, or lotions. Ben-Gay would be a common brand familiar to many, but it is not the only pain relief liniment in the market. Different brands would have different ingredients, but the most common ingredient among them would be menthol and methyl salicylate. Some liniments contain lidocaine, which is an anesthetic.
Liniments are meant to be applied directly onto the painful body part. It has a minty or cool feel to it, though the more potent ones can cause a little hot stinging sensation for the first few minutes after being applied. The idea is that the cooling effect will either soothe or numb the area, or both.
