Methods To Relieve Sciatica

Cortiscosteroids

MedShadow

Corticosteroids are a medication that suppresses inflammation around an irritated nerve. In the case of sciatica, a doctor may recommend an injection of corticosteroids around the sciatic nerve. By suppressing the inflammation, the corticosteroids also prevent the onset of pain, or at least reduce its intensity if pain does still occur. The inflammation and pain suppressing effects of corticosteroids usually last for several weeks or months, depending on several factors like dosage and the patient’s sensitivity to the drug. Doctors will sometimes NOT recommend corticosteroid injections because there are some adverse side effects to the drug. And even if a doctor recommends corticosteroid injections for pain management, the dosage and frequency of application will have to be strictly administered by the doctor, not a DIY thing, also because of the adverse side effects that can manifest.
