Methods To Relieve Sciatica

Preventing Sciatica

MedicineNet

To some extent, sciatica is a preventable condition. Of the 3 main risk factors for sciatica: age, obesity, and bad posture, only age is completely non-modifiable.

Obesity is sometimes modifiable. Even if not totally eliminated, obesity can still be reduced. Live an active lifestyle and stick to a lean diet, you will likely be able to avoid or reduce fat buildup, and/or increase muscle strength. If you can control obesity, you can prevent straining your spine with the extra load and instability due to imbalanced weight distribution.

To further reduce the load and instability on the spine, be mindful to keep a proper posture. Stand up straight, or sit up straight, and avoid slouching. If you do HAVE TO slouch, be as brief with it as possible. Although, seriously, you would be hard-pressed to come up with any number of reasons to slouch.

You cannot prevent ageing, that is a given. In fact, ageing is a good thing. It means you did not die young. That leaves you with only the options to control your obesity, and control your posture. Do these two right (control obesity and control posture), and you just might be able to effectively prevent sciatica.
