Methods To Relieve Sciatica

Prolonged Sitting And Obesity Raise The Risks Of Sciatica

Athlete Physical Therapy

Sitting for too long can cause structural changes in the spine. The natural curve on the lower back will eventually take the strain of the seated position, especially if the person’s sitting posture tends to slouch. Unless a person is always mindful, it is natural for most people to slouch several times over the span of time sitting for more than an hour. If the person is slouched for too long, the discs take an imbalanced strain and sometimes start to bulge.

Obesity also increases the stress on a person’s spine. The increased weight, and the sometimes imbalanced weight distribution, over time, can cause the spine to change in structure and shape. These changes can cause structures around the sciatic nerve to press onto or compress the nerve, thereby causing sciatica.
