Methods To Relieve Sciatica

Be Mindful Of Proper Posture

BodyBuilding

Sometimes the most expedient and convenient way to relieve sciatica is simply to get in the correct posture. In fact, mindfully maintaining the correct posture may help prevent sciatica in the first place.

The normal human spine has 3 curves. The curve on the lower back, called the lumbar curve, is meant to go from the upper back, toward the front, and return to the back. When people get tired, they tend to slouch. This is true whether they are standing or seated. Unfortunately, slouching counteracts the natural optimal balance of the body, which puts undue strain on the spine in general. What is worse is that slouching tends to reverse the natural shape of the lumbar curve, which puts undue strain on the spinal discs and may cause them to bulge out, impinging on the sciatic nerve. Slouching from time to time, infrequently, will not likely put a major strain on the lumbar curve. However, if slouching becomes more frequent and/or prolonged, it increases the chances of developing sciatica.

“Sit up straight” may have been an instruction used by parents for a long time to make their children look sharper, but that instruction may actually be useful in preventing sciatica, too. Be mindful to sit up straight, or stand up straight. Proper posture is as simple as that.
