Could It Be Pneumonia? A Dozen Warning Signs!

4. Dyspnea

As has been mentioned, pain when inhaling is a possible symptom of pneumonia.  Sometimes, even without pain, a person with pneumonia would have difficulty drawing in air.  This is called dyspnea, or more commonly referred to as “shortness of breath”.  Even with their best effort, a person with pneumonia would have a hard time taking in a deep breath.  This is because the alveoli of the lungs are already occupied.  However, instead of the alveoli being filled with air, they are already filled with fluid or pus.  This means there is little space left for air to occupy, and therefore there would be very little air that can be taken in.  If you are experiencing this, when normally you do not, go and get checked by a doctor.
