Are Stomach Flu And Food Poisoning The Same?

14. Incidence of Food Poisoning

Scripps Health

Food poisoning is not nearly as frequent in the United States of America.  It is estimated that there are 1.5 Million cases of bacterial gastroenteritis in the USA alone.  Most of these cases are traced to food contamination.  Food poisoning is rarely a cause of death, but it does claim around 300 lives in the USA every year.

Food poisoning is estimated to have a higher occurrence in underdeveloped countries, especially those with warmer climates.  This is usually due to the combination of poorer food hygiene practices and warmer temperatures.  Such a combination provides more conducive conditions for bacteria to proliferate, and more chances of bacterial transfer and contamination.
