While most of us are aware that white bread is not the healthiest choice we can make when it comes to the kind of carbohydrates we incorporate into our diets, few of us are aware that processed white flour can actually be dangerous for your health. As we know, refining grains strips them of their natural vitamins and nutrients. Some mills are no longer happy with waiting for flour to whiten with time — as that is no longer economically viable in this economy. Sometimes, white flour is bleached with a chemical called chlorine gas. In large quantities, chlorine gas is a dangerous irritant that is unsafe to inhale or to be around unprotected. White processed flour also has a very high glycemic rate, which raises the risk of cancer. Avoiding refined grains can help minimize the risk of tumors, which have been found to feed mostly on the sugars in your bloodstream.
