Another sign that someone is suffering from the flu is having an earache. Often times, the influenza virus infects all of the mucous membranes, which includes the ear. The pain comes from the inflammation of the eardrum due to the infection, which then causes intense pressure that results in pain. The pain can be either dull, sharp or even a stabbing pain, which can also be worsened by swallowing, sneezing and coughing. To make matters worse, earaches can turn into an infection when not treated in a timely manner, otherwise known as ‘otitis media.’ Regardless, whether you have one or more flu signs, be sure to see a doctor for the proper diagnosis and treatment.
