Sore throats are one of the very first signs of having the flu. A sore throat is also known as pharyngitis because it is the pharynx that gets irritated and swollen, causing pain and at times, even producing pus on the sides of the throat. Many times, when a sore throat occurs due to the flu, it will come on quickly, being a major source of irritation. And many times, it becomes progressively worse due to the other symptoms of the flu like a cough, stuffy or runny nose, and sneezing. Be sure to treat the sore throat as you do the cough and fever in order to lessen the chances of it turning into something worse like strep throat.
