Bladder Infection: Symptoms, Remedies, and Prevention

Causes of Bladder Infection

Frontiers

Bacteria is the most common cause of a bladder infection, particularly Escherichia coli (E. coli). This type of bacteria is naturally found in the large intestine. If E. coli from your stool gets on your skin, it can travel to and enter your urethra, which is the tube that urine travels through on its way out of your body. If the bacteria reach your bladder, they can attach to its lining, which can cause inflammation. The bacteria may multiply quickly and lead to a bladder infection.
