Bladder Infection: Symptoms, Remedies, and Prevention

Treatment of Bladder Infection

Marketplace

If you suffer from just a mild case of bladder infection, it may go away on its own within a few days. But if it lasts longer, you should see your doctor to get it treated immediately.

Antibiotics are usually the first course of treatment for a bladder infection. These should be taken for as long as directed, even if you start to feel better sooner.

The most commonly prescribed medications include trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, nitrofurantoin monohydrate, and fosfomycin trometamol, but other antibiotics may be prescribed as well, depending on the severity of your infection.

Your doctor will decide which treatment is best for you. You may also be given other medications to ease your symptoms.
