Seeking attention alone is not necessarily a sign of narcissistic personality disorder. More importantly, those with NPD seek to be recognized as superior even if they have done nothing to distinguish themselves as such. Whether or not they have any real achievements, they want to be known as the best at what they do. Narcissists need others to give them validation that they are better than the rest. They thrive on the excessive admiration bestowed on them by others.
