Because narcissists always feel the need to be the best, they tend to become envious of others who they feel are doing better than they are. The success of other people tends to trigger their pathological envy. This is because those achievements remind them of what they themselves lack or are unable to achieve. When other people’s accomplishments start to feel threatening, narcissists will do what they can to downplay them. Sometimes, they would turn things around in their head, and end up believing that others envy them.
