While there is not yet any conclusive evidence linking carbonated drinks to kidney stones, studies suggest that reducing these drinks may lower the risk of recurring kidney stones. One study conducted on kidney stone patients found that those who cut back on soda reduced their risk of getting stones again by around 15 percent. The reason for this is not clear. However, phosphoric acid found in carbonated beverages may increase the acidity of urine. This increases the risk of forming kidney stones. Despite the lack of conclusive evidence, it is still best to avoid carbonated drinks. Doing so would also have a positive impact on your overall health.
