When the sclera of your eyes turn yellow or look yellowish in color, it is normally an indication that you have jaundice. Jaundice is a medical condition where the whites of the eyes, the skin, and even one’s mucous membranes become yellow in color because of too much bilirubin in the body. Bilirubin happens to be a yellowish pigment that’s produced due to a breakdown of red blood cells, which is also a sign of a bile duct or liver problem. These include certain autoimmune systems, hepatitis, gallstones, and even tumors at times. If you notice the whites of your eyes, or your skin for that matter, turning yellowish, speak to your doctor immediately about what the actual cause could be so you can begin treatment immediately.
