6. Acetone Nail Polish Remover

Although acetone is not exactly the most organic of methods, it is still another home remedy that is highly effective. Since acetone has strong dehydrating properties, putting some on top of a cold sore is effective at getting the cold sores to dry out. Simply take a cotton ball and dip it the acetone, then dap that directly on the cold sore making sure it doesn’t get inside the mouth. Leave it on and allow it to dry up the sore, doing it a few times a day or as needed until the cold sore it completely dried out.
