It is common for patients with metastatic colorectal cancer to dismiss things like bone fractures as being unrelated to the disease, due to the distance of the fracture from the colon and the rectum. When colon cancer spreads to the bones, it is commonly found in the spine, hips, arms, or legs. The cancer weakens these long bones, making it easier for them to break or fracture — whether or not there is any trauma or impact on the bones.
