People with a brain tumor often experience changes in their cognitive function. It is one of the most common symptoms to manifest and is affected by the location, size, and growth rate of the tumor.

This means that you may experience difficulty with language and communication (such as reading, writing, or speaking), an inability to concentrate or pay attention (such as confusion, being easily distracted, or difficulty with planning and multitasking), or issues with your executive function or general intellectual abilities (such as difficulty with reasoning, impaired judgment, or being unable to link cause and effect).

What changes you experience usually depend on the area of your brain that is affected by the tumor. The frontal lobe affects intelligence, reasoning, behavior, personality, planning, decision making, memory, judgment, mood, initiative, and movement. On the other hand, the temporal lobe affects speech, vision, hearing, behavior, memory, and emotions. Finally, the parietal lobe affects reasoning, intelligence, language, reading, sensation, and the ability to tell right from left.
