Hallucinations

Stat News

Seeing things that are not there is something that happens in up to 80% of people with LBD, and often early on in the progression of the disease.  The hallucinations are usually realistic and detailed, like images of children or animals. Nonvisual hallucinations, like hearing things or smelling things that are not present, are not as common as visual hallucinations, but they may also happen. Those that are not disruptive may not require treatment, however if they are dangerous or frightening (like when a person hallucinates that there is an intruder and they try to fend them off), then a doctor should be consulted for the best course of action.
