Depression

Depression is a common problem among older adults; however, it is not a normal part of aging. Studies have shown instead that most older adults feel satisfied with their lives, despite the increased occurrences of illnesses or physical problems. Depression in older adults may be difficult to recognize because they may show different symptoms than younger people or may not wish to talk about their feelings. Older people who are depressed appear to feel tired, have trouble sleeping, or seem irritable and cantankerous — rather than sad.
