Treatments For COVID-19

As of this writing, there are no confirmed vaccines or anti-virals for curing people with COVID-19.  Some vaccines and anti-virals are being developed by several drug companies and some governments.  However, these are still in the development phase, and the claims that they are almost complete have proven to be media hype in most cases.

Many have seen on TV some COVID-19 cases being treated in hospitals.  Because there is still no known cure for COVDD-19, as in currently nothing known to either purge or kill the SARS-CoV-2 from the human body, all treatment being done to patients are really just symptom-based and supportive in nature.  That means they are just treating the symptoms, not really eliminating the virus.  And they are supporting the patient, hoping the patient lives long enough to develop enough anti-bodies to defeat the virus.

The global recovery rate from COVID-19 is in the area of 80%, all of these without anti-virals or so-called “cures” for the disease.  These recoveries are all people whose symptoms were addressed, whose medical needs were supported, and whose immune systems developed antibodies and measures to overcome the virus until the body was finally able to subdue the virus and slowly nullify its effects.

It used to be that anytime you felt you were sick, going to a Medical Doctor was the automatic option.  However, hospital-borne infection (catching a bug when exposed in the hospital) is a high risk and a very valid concern during an epidemic (or in this case, a pandemic).  There are now more doctors advising their patients to first do a virtual consult before going to the hospital or the medical clinic for testing and treatment for COVID-19.

With that in mind, it is advisable to observe and consider your signs and symptoms keenly.  If these symptoms persist, or if they progress, call your Doctor and consult your symptoms with him or her.  If the symptoms you describe, as well as the exposure history you provide add up to the possibility of COVID-19, your Doctor will prescribe a test particularly to detect the SARS-CoV-2.  As of this writing, a laboratory test is the only method known to confirm if what you are sick with is COVID-19, or not.  And since there is currently still no known confirmed vaccine and cure for COVID-19, the prevention tips in this article will be your best option to help keep you safe and healthy.
