Exercise And Stay Healthy

The normal human body was designed to move.  Even prehistoric humans are proof of that.  If they didn’t move to chase their animal prey, they’d have no lunch.  If they didn’t move to run away, they’d be some animal’s lunch.  It is not surprising then that the lack of physical activity has proven to be detrimental to the human body.  In fact, the World Health Organization considers physical inactivity to be a global public health problem, with more than 3.2 Million deaths per year attributable to insufficient physical activity.

The problem with physical inactivity, the lack of exercise, is that it degrades the body’s ability to function at its peak.  When the body lacks exercise, cardiac health suffers, the digestive system is not as efficient, the musculoskeletal structure deteriorates faster, and even the immune system weakens.  Exercise is more than just about looking good or losing weight (although some people do exercise with these objectives in mind), it is ultimately about being healthy, resilient, and functional.  When it comes to being protected from disease, a healthy body is more disease-resistant than an unhealthy body, simply because a healthy body’s immune system is stronger, and therefore more likely to overcome the virus instead of the virus overcoming the body.

Many studies have been conducted to determine the correlation between exercise and disease rate.  The results have been consistent over the decades: people who exercise regularly get sick less than people who do not exercise.  And when fit people get sick, the duration is usually shorter, they heal faster, and the severity is usually milder than of those who do not exercise.

The evidence is solid.  If you want to avoid getting sick with COVID-19, keep your body healthy with exercise, eat healthful food, and you will strengthen your body against SARS-CoV-2.
