Calendula is a flower that has been used as either a tincture, ointment or a wash for its healing properties for burns, cuts, bruises and infections. Aside from helping heal wounds quicker, it may also help increase blood flow and oxygen to the affected areas as well. Moreover, it may help with skin inflammation and dermatitis due to its antiviral and antibacterial properties. As for conjunctivitis, calendula can help soothe the discomfort and irritation to the eye. You can use two teaspoons of dried calendula flowers steeped in one cup of hot water. Once the leaves are strained out using a coffee filter or cheesecloth, you can use the strained out water to wash the eyes around 5 to 6 times a day, making sure to wash the area afterwards. You can also dip a cloth in the mixture and use it as you would a warm compress.
