20 Home Remedies To Help Relieve Pink Eye

BCDO

Pink eye, which is also known as conjunctivitis, is a condition where the transparent membrane that covers the eyeball and the inside of the eyelid becomes inflamed. This membrane, also known as the conjunctiva, has small vessels that can become irritated and swollen, making them inflamed, usually turning the whites of the eyes reddish or pink in color, hence the name.

While pink eye is normally caused by a viral infection, which means it’s caused by a virus, there are times when it can be considered bacterial, which means it’s caused by bacteria, while for other times, it is due to an allergic reaction. In addition, while pink eye is not usually serious, it is highly contagious. This is why getting an early diagnosis can help prevent spreading it to others.

Moreover, pink eye doesn’t normally affect your vision, and when treated properly it usually goes away within a few days. However, there are also times when you will need to seek professional medical help if it doesn’t clear up or if it gets worse.

Here are 20 at home remedies to help treat pink eye.

1. Cold Compress

The most popular and probably easiest treatment that can be done at home to treat pink eye is using a cold compress. This not only helps relieve any itching and swelling, but it may also promote the reduction of inflammation as well. However, a cold compress or cold pack will not get rid of the bacteria or virus that may be causing the condition in the first place, but only work to soothe the irritation. Simply take a clean cloth and soak it in some ice water. Once it’s reached an icy feel, wring out any excess water and place it directly over the affected eye for at least 5 to 10 minutes. You can do this 3 to 4 times a day, making sure to change the cloth every time as the infection can spread to the used cloth and become worse.
