9 Signs Your Acid Reflux Is GERD

7. Laryngitis

Dr. Weil

Reflux laryngitis is a voice condition caused by the reflux of stomach juices into the throat, causing irritation and swelling of the vocal folds. Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is the medical term for this backflow (acid that reaches the level of the throat). Acids and enzymes in stomach fluids aid digestion in the stomach, but they cause issues elsewhere in the food pipe [esophagus, throat, and voice box]. Acid or non-acidic reflux disease might occur. It is divided into GERD and LPR for acid reflux. Heartburn is a common GERD symptom. Throat clearing, a lump in the throat, and hoarseness are more likely LPR symptoms.
