Pancreatic cancer can also cause the formation of blood clots in the veins of the lower extremities, a condition known as DVT or Deep Vein Thrombosis which can lead to more serious conditions. Clots are formed due to stasis, a condition of slow blood flow in the veins, usually of the legs caused when pancreatic cancer has spread onto other areas, most especially the liver.

Deep vein thrombosis in pancreatic cancer usually happens late in the disease, however, it is still important to be aware of its symptoms, such as leg pain, redness and tenderness, as it can cause more serious problems. When these clots found in the legs dislodge, they can find their way into the lungs, resulting in pulmonary embolism, which is a recognized life-threatening medical emergency. Make sure to visit your doctor immediately in order for him or her to treat the clot and find out what’s causing it in the first place.
