15 Signs That You May Have Diabetes

3. Increased Appetite

Diabetes UK

The third main symptom of diabetes is an increased appetite or excessive hunger, which is called polyphagia. This can be caused by either unusually high levels of blood glucose (hyperglycemia), or unusually low levels of blood glucose (hypoglycemia). With hyperglycemia, your body is unable to convert the food you eat into energy due to a lack of insulin or insulin resistance, causing an increase in hunger. On the other hand, with hypoglycemia, your body releases glucose stored in the liver when your blood glucose falls too low. In any case, excessive hunger due to diabetes cannot be solved simply by eating more food than usual. If your appetite inexplicably increases, make sure to consult with your doctor.
