Another common sign of COPD is fatigue, which is explained as feeling extremely tired or exhausted, so much so that you cannot do your usual daily functions or activities. Fatigue is also described as a deep weariness that no matter how much rest or sleep you get, you still don’t feel rested when you get up. When it comes to COPD, fatigue is usually caused by a lack of oxygen that comes with excess formation of mucus within the lungs. Because the oxygen is not able to get into your blood stream or your muscles, they more your body works, the more tired it gets. And to make matters worse, when this happens, people with COPD end up becoming less active, which also causes them to be less fit, creating a bad cycle. As a result, older adults find even the simplest of tasks difficult to do because it can take too much effort, like walking from one place to another, or just getting up and down the stairs.
