10 Signs You May Be Dealing With A Blood Infection

 3. Rapid Breathing or Shortness of Breath

Penn Medicine

Another common sign of a blood infection is rapid breathing, or shortness of breath, which is said to be around 22 breaths per minute or more, as 20 breaths per minute is already considered elevated. Rapid breathing may also be referred to as hyperventilation, which is a result of highly stressful situations or a response to panic and fear. When this happens, the body releases more carbon dioxide than it produces, leading to the narrowing of the blood vessels that are responsible for supplying blood to the brain. When someone is battling a blood infection, it can cause rapid breathing as the immune system attempts to battle the infection. Shortness of breath, alongside other symptoms on this list, should never be ignored and should always be given proper medical attention.
