Possible Plastic Contamination With Packaged Chicken At Costco Recalled

New York Post

Costco has frozen breaded chicken breast patties on their shelves, but the ones that were produced on August 11, 2022 had been recalled. They did this after the chicken was shipped to distribution centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, and Washington state.

Last October 29, 2022, Foster Farms decided to recall around 148,000 pounds of fully cooked frozen chicken patties. They said that these may have been contaminated with pieces of hard and potentially sharp plastic. This was an announcement made by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

These packed goods were shipped to Costco distribution centers in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah, and Washington, and what’s more is that this may have also reached other Costco retail locations, but they’re looking for into it right now to ensure everyone’s safety.

The recall was made because the danger posed was classified as Class I high or medium risk. This means that the agency identified it as having “a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

While the classification stated the risks, there have been no confirmed reports just yet of casualties that’s linked to eating these chicken patties, but they also believe that the plastic pieces that are hard and possibly embedded are sharp, which means that these can injure those who ingest it.

For those who are worried about the patty they purchased and could feel some of the effects need to contact a healthcare provider immediately.

Complains on Hard Clear Plastic Embedded in Chicken Patties Have Been Made

As mentioned, the fully-cooked frozen breaded chicken breast patties were produced in August of this year. The recall was made for 80 ounce (oz) plastic bag packages that had 20 pieces of “Chicken Patties Breaded Chicken Breast Patties with Rib Meat” with the best-by date of August 11, 2023, establishment number P-33901, and lot code 3*2223** in inkjet print that’s found at the back edge of the packaging. There was also a 7527899724 that’s printed under the barcode.

The problem was immediately identified when Foster Farms called and notified the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). They divulged how they had received consumer complaints and said many saw hard clear plastic embedded in the patties they purchased.

The product recalled is frozen. It contains 20 chicken patties in it. The authorities from FSIS are concerned that many have stored this chicken in their freezers and said that those who bought this product should throw it away and avoid consumption at call cost. They need to be properly disposed or returned to the place of purchase.
