Insomnia and inability to stay asleep
Sleep disturbances are a common hallmark of both hyper- and hypothyroidism; but in the former, the sufferer is unable to fall asleep. Sleep is often fitful and characterized by insomnia and inability to stay asleep. The poor quality of sleep also heightens feelings of anxiety and general malaise. Over time, the lack of sleep compounds and exacerbates other symptoms.
