2. Runny nose
Excess nasal discharge causes a runny nose. It could be a clear, thin liquid, thick mucus, or something in between. Drainage might come from your nose, the back of your throat, or both. A runny nose is commonly referred to as “rhinorrhea” or “rhinitis.” Rhinorrhea is a nasal discharge that is thin and mainly clear. The inflammation of nasal tissues is known as rhinitis. A runny nose is a common symptom of rhinitis. You may or may not have nasal congestion if you have a runny nose.
Anything that irritates or inflames the nasal tissues might induce a runny nose. A runny nose can be caused by a variety of things, including infections like the common cold and influenza, allergies, and numerous irritants. Nonallergic rhinitis, also known as vasomotor rhinitis, is a disorder in which some people have a chronically runny nose for no obvious reason. Polyps, a foreign body, RSV, a tumor, or migraine-like symptoms are less common causes of a runny nose.
