11 Signs And Symptoms To Identify A Kidney Infection

Causes of Kidney Infection

Live Science

Kidney infections are usually caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli), a bacteria that is found in the large intestine. This happens when the bacteria travel from the anus to the urethra, which is the tube through which your urine passes. The bacteria then enters your urinary tract and makes its way to your bladder and kidneys.

Another way your kidney can get infected is if bacteria from an infection in another part of your body spread through your bloodstream to your kidneys. An obstruction blocking the flow of urine, such as a kidney stone or tumor in your urinary tract, can also lead to a kidney infection.
