Fruits with Chili Powder
Yes, you read that right: fruits with chili powder. If you are weirded out by the thought, let’s just agree to not judge a food by its topping. Spicy desserts are not new, actually. They were a trend in the high-brow culinary world in the 1970s, with cakes and ice cream being tweaked with a dash of chili or pepper. Nowadays, you get to enjoy that trend in the streets of Mexico, too. Who knows, maybe those chefs of old actually got that idea from the Mexicans.
Street food is common in Mexico, with food choices being sold varying from savory tacos, burritos, or tortas, to elote and esquite (corn, mentioned earlier in this article), to simple fruits, peeled, prepared, and often served in a cup. It is common to see kiwis, cantaloupes, and pineapples sold cut up, served in a cup, and topped… with chili powder.
