Stomach Flu And Food Poisoning Prevention And Treatment

Vaccination

The Healthy

Stomach flu caused by rotavirus infection can be prevented through vaccination.

In countries like the United States, there are vaccines available and recommended for preventing rotavirus infection.  These vaccines do not completely eliminate the possibility of getting infected by the rotavirus.  However, it is still a helpful vaccine because it can reduce the severity of signs and symptoms resulting from the infection.  Vaccines against rotavirus infection are recommended to be given to children within their first year of life, especially as stomach flu at such a young age has a higher chance of fatality than when later in life.

Despite norovirus being the most common cause for stomach flu, a vaccine against this particular virus is not yet available, but it is under development.  While the vaccine against norovirus is still under development, there are other ways to prevent the spread of this particular infection.
