Stomach Flu And Food Poisoning Prevention And Treatment

Probiotics

NutraIngredients-LATAM

Giving probiotics to persons suffering gastroenteritis has been studied to be beneficial to overcoming the illness and aiding in recovery.  Probiotics are live good bacteria, as opposed to the bad bacteria that cause the food poisoning to begin with.  The concept is that the good bacteria overcome the bad bacteria, thereby eliminating the bad bacteria’s potency, or eliminating the bad bacteria altogether.

Studies on child patients found that probiotics, which are either Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG or Saccharomyces bouladii, shortened their need for hospital confinement by at least 1.12 days.  Used in combination with fluid replacement and the use of oral rehydration solutions, the good bacteria, administered under clinical supervision, showed effectiveness in fighting against gastrointestinal infection.

A probiotic that is popular in many countries contains another strain of good bacteria, Lactobacillus Shirota.  This probiotic is commonly known as Yakult, and is often available in most grocery stores and supermarkets the world over.
