Stomach Flu And Food Poisoning Prevention And Treatment

Separate Personal Items

Segregation or separation of personal items is another effective way of preventing the spread of stomach flu in your homes.  Do not share eating utensils, drinking vessels, and plates.  Infected persons can transmit the virus when droplets of their mouth fluids, which contain the virus, touch the surfaces of these mentioned objects (i.e. eating utensils, drinking vessels, and plates).  With the virus having been transmitted to these objects, whoever uses these objects with the virus still on its surface, will then ingest the virus which will then infect the new host.

Using disposable cups, disposable utensils, disposable plates, and paper towels or paper napkins (which are, of course, disposable) may well prove to be one of the best ways to avoid transmitting the virus.  This way, people do not make the mistake of using these items that could still contain the virus on its surfaces, especially if these have not yet been properly disinfected.  Note that simply rinsing them with water is not an effective method of disinfection.  Whether it be you, or someone else who is infected, using disposables reduces the chances of the virus spreading.

Even bath towels and hand towels can be surfaces that get touched by mouth fluid or droplets of mouth fluid, thus becoming a means of transmitting the virus.  For this reason, even bath towels or hand towels must be segregated.
