In a new poll done of today’s seniors, at least one-third of people that reach the age of 70 or above agreed that the ‘old age stereotypes’ no longer apply. In fact, at least 72 percent of this ‘older group’ feel “years younger” than the age they actually age, and are also much more physically active than they believed they would be at this age.

In their survey of 1,000 people over the age of 70, it was discovered that by socializing with friends, eating a varied diet, laughing every day, and enjoying an active sex life, are all factors in what keeps them young. Moreover, they also add that following a strong skincare routine, going out dancing, and keeping up with the latest technology, are also thing that help keep them feeling young as well.

As for others, at least 16% of them share that hanging out with people that are younger than them keeps them young, while for another 9%, it’s keeping up with new music. Surprisingly, one in 20 participants also said that they even jump up supermarket carts to glide around like children whenever they feel like it.

The poll was commissioned by Vitabiotics Wellman 70+, and their spokesperson said that, “Getting older no longer means you have to slow down and miss out on the things you love.”

“For a long time, a popular phrase was ’40 is the new 30’ – but now, as people are living longer, it’s probably fair to say in many cases 70 can be the new 50.”

For 76 precent of the people that were polled share that they believe that getting to ‘old age’ is much later now than what it was during previous generations. And moreover, most of the silver seniors don’t necessarily think of themselves as old until they reach the age of 78.

The poll also showed that 48 percent of the participants believe they are doing a good job of changing the minds or perceptions of what people believe “old people” are like. Furthermore, 14 percent of the people surveyed by OnePoll truly feel that they are even 20 years younger than the actual age that it says on their birth certificates.

In addition, more than four people of out 10 feel like they age more physically than they do mentally, while there is just one in 10 that feels the strain on their brain as they age. Plus, 23% believe their grandchildren don’t see them as ‘old,’ with at least 29 percent claiming that they believe the younger people see them as in-the-know on current trends.

The spokesperson goes on to share, “By making the effort to stay active, both physically and mentally, as well as taking good care of your general health, it really is possible to stave off those feelings of being old for years, or even decades.”
