Methods People Have Employed To Better Their Sleep Routines

Many of us sleep at night but then we wake feeling just as tired or even more so after sleeping. If you can relate to this, you’re in good company because several people have commented to feeling the same thing.

A new survey has been made and this involved 2,000 adults in the States. They were asked to talk about their sleep. The researchers discovered that the typical person doesn’t actually get the quality or amount of sleep they need or want. In fact, they’re nowhere near it.

On average, Americans only get around six hours of sleep per night, and this could mean that when they wake, they feel well-rested only three mornings out of the seven days.

The poll was commissioned by Premier Protein. They were able to make the market research with the help of the firm OnePoll, the one who conducted it. They were able to discover that aside from the fact that Americans seldom woke up feeling rested, the average person also has difficulty relaxing and winding down before sleeping for almost half of the week.

Particularly those with kids seem to struggle with the nighttime routines. Thirty-five percent of those in the survey who were parents said that their routines often paid the price and with a close percentage of those saying that they find winding down before sleeping challenging for the most part.

It also must be noted that this just doesn’t happen to parents. Two in three Americans (or around 66 percent of them) believe that they require at least two hours to start winding down before they are able to finally fall asleep. Respondents who live in the Northeastern U.S. (38 percent) are likelier to also find winding down difficult.

Those who thought of themselves as “night people” (53 percent) said that while they feel livelier, more productive, or more energized at night, they also struggle with this very thing. As for those who think of themselves as “day people” are tend to have a “good” or excellent” sleep routine (45 percent) when they were compared to just 22 percent of “night people.”

Almost half (47%) also say that their eating habits could possibly have an impact on their ability to wind down before sleeping.

“Many don’t realize how their evening routine and eating habits throughout the day can impact overall sleep quality,” Carissa Galloway said. She is a registered dietitian nutritionist who consults with Premier Protein.

“Committing to a consistent and relaxing nighttime routine, as well as making healthy food and drink choices, can help support a healthy sleep regimen,” she added.

The survey also looked into food and beverages such as milk (41 percent), tea (31 percent), honey (23 percent), wine (19 percent), and bananas (19 percent) were mentioned by those who claim to have these before bed so that they can sleep better.

There were also 39 percent of them who were asked to rate their sleep pattern. This means that they needed to see how often they woke up during their sleep and if they wake feeling refreshed and well rested. This number said that they were below average. In fact, only 8 percent claimed that they had “excellent” sleep pattern.

The random double-opt-in survey made also demonstrated how Americans are working hard to make sure that they put their sleep routines and habits as a priority when the new year entered, and only 46 percent of them made an effort to do something new. They got some of their ideas online, hoping that these may actually be effective.

Two in three people said that they prioritized winding down before bed: 49 percent are promised themselves to a regular sleep schedule, 43 percent said that they were going to bed at an earlier time, and 38 percent promised to make sure that they keep a consistent nighttime routine.

 

Six Tips Coming from Respondents that Said These Helped Them with Their Sleep:

– Making sure they have something warm to drink before bedtime to help them relax (36 percent)
– Taking a nap to catch up on missed sleep (33 percent)
– Drinking one glass wine before bedtime to help them relax, especially after a stressful day (18 percent)
– Taking in vitamins and minerals during the say (24 percent)
– Trying out with new products during the night as part of their routine (19 percent)
– Trying some new sleep supplement brand that they can get (17 percent)
