Good Food For Protein

What Happens If You Have Too Little Protein

NY Neurology Associates

Protein deficiency is not often an issue in well-developed countries, but it can be a cause for malnutrition in developing or underdeveloped countries. People who are deficient in protein have weak bones, low muscular strength, and poor muscle condition. Because of this, people who are deficient in protein run a higher risk of bone fracture, not only because the bones are weaker, but also because the muscles are unable to adequately support the bone structure during impact or pressure. Even the skin condition degenerates because the regeneration of skin tissue requires amino acids from proteins. Fingernails and toenails become weak and/ or brittle. The liver also becomes fatty when there is too little protein in the body, because the body will try to store fats for use as protein in the future, when the need becomes dire. For children, having too little protein may stunt their growth.
