Food And Drinks For A Healthy Heart

NOT ALL MEAT IS BAD

Lean Meat

The so-called “common knowledge” associates red meat consumption with higher cholesterol, higher blood pressure, and higher risk of heart disease. These are because red meat contains more saturated fat than poultry or fish meat sources. While the correlation with hypertension and heart disease does exist, recent studies have shown that red meat need not be totally eliminated from your diet.

Adding a little LEAN red meat to your diet is still acceptable, and the protein from red meat is still important to your health, especially for athletes. Manage your portions to no more than the size of a deck of cards in a day (this portion changes for athletes, which may vary according to their sport, their intensity of training, and their other food sources). As much as possible choose alternatives like fish or poultry.
